ABOUT CANNINGTON
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on an 4:3 roster, Monday to Thursday, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.
As the Electrical Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for improving electrical and instrumentation asset reliability, optimising asset lifecycle performance, maintaining asset data integrity, and supporting safe, sustainable and cost-effective operations.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Analyse reliability trends and equipment performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Monitor asset health and reliability KPIs and provide recommendations to improve performance.
- Assess condition monitoring and inspection data to improve asset performance and reliability.
- Develop and optimise maintenance strategies for electrical and instrumentation assets.
- Lead root cause analysis investigations and defect elimination initiatives.
- Develop and maintain electrical and instrumentation asset lifecycle plans.
- Develop business cases, scopes of work and technical justifications for reliability improvement and asset replacement projects.
- Review statutory and compliance inspection reports and coordinate corrective actions.
- Support statutory compliance and asset management processes to ensure safe and effective operation of electrical and instrumentation assets.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Extensive experience in mining, minerals processing, or a similar heavy industry environment.
- Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM): Developing proactive, preventive and predictive maintenance strategies using data-driven insights to improve asset performance, reduce unplanned downtime and optimise maintenance effectiveness.
- Power Systems Knowledge: Sound understanding of transformers, switchgear, motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives (VSDs) and electrical protection systems.
- Failure Analysis: Conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions to improve asset reliability.
- Condition Monitoring: Analysing thermography, oil analysis, SCADA/PLC alarm trends and maintenance test results to identify emerging asset defects and reliability risks.
- Standards and Compliance: Applying and interpreting relevant electrical standards, codes and statutory requirements (IEC, IEEE, AS/NZS and relevant legislation).
Desirable:
- Proficiency with CMMS platforms such as SAP PM or Maximo.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Power BI.
- Experience with power system modelling software such as PTW, ETAP or PowerCAD.
- Understanding of arc flash hazards and the implementation of safe operating, maintenance and testing practices for electrical equipment.
- Experience working with electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- Current Drivers Licence
