ABOUT CANNINGTON 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

SOUTH32’s VACATION PROGRAM

Mining Engineering – Cannington Operation

We’re offering practical, real-world experience for Mining Engineering students in their penultimate year, based at our Cannington operation.

Our 12-week Vacation Program runs on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Brisbane or Townsville, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry or McKinlay shires. It offers valuable exposure to underground mining and is a pathway into our Graduate Program. You'll gain technical skills and site-based experience to help launch your career.

ABOUT YOU 

To be eligible for our Vacation Program, you will:

• Be in your penultimate year of a Mining Engineering degree
• Have the right to live and work in Australia
• Hold a valid driver’s licence
• Be available for the full 12-week program starting November 2025
