Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.


Cannington mine provides resort style on-site accommodation including meal services, and laundry as well as sporting and gym facilities.


About the role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor Fixed Plant Maintenance, the role of Underground Electrician is to safely maintain Underground Electrical Infrastructure, Mobile Plant Equipment and execute the work arising from breakdowns and work orders while also carrying out preventative maintenance to the correct standards of safety and quality to ensure equipment availability.


The role is 7/7 roster, Fly-in/Fly-out from Townsville, Brisbane or Cairns or Drive-in/Drive-out from the Mount Isa

  • Working effectively and collaterally with immediate colleagues and others in cross-functional relationships, on tasks within the context of Cannington’s vision to be the safest, most efficient underground hard rock mining and processing operation


You’ll be a great fit if you have:


  • Ideally hold a Tertiary qualification as an Electrical Fitter/Mechanic
  • SAP PM Proficiency.
  • Understanding of SCADA interfaces.
  • Fault find and program site standard programmable logic controllers
  • Sound understanding of Australian Standards and Queensland legislation pertaining to Electrical Work
  • Sound understanding of Electrical over Hydraulic systems
  • Sound understanding of Underground Electrical Infrastructure 1000V (Fan , Drill & Pump Starters) and Fixed Plant Infrastructure (Crushers, Conveyors & Stackers)
  • Sound understanding of Fixed Plant Infrastructure (Crushers, Conveyors & Stackers)
  • Electrical maintenance skills relating to underground drilling equipment e.g. Sandvik Axeria D07 and Atlas Copco Simba LC6 drill rigs
  • High voltage network experience 11KV (Switching, Terminations & Splicing)
  • Ability to manage, influence and work within a multi discipline maintenance team
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to efficiently utilise the preferred computerised maintenance management system (SAP) or have had exposure to another similar system
  •  Ability to efficiently navigate and utilise computer networks and applications
  •  Ability to work in an underground mining environment as required
