ABOUT CANNINGTON 

 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

 

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

The role presents a career defining challenge to lead the transformation phase of Cannington as we move to safely set new benchmarks in operational excellence, extend the underground mine life and discover ways to further extend the operations life.

 

You will be a member of the Cannington Leadership Team and part of the South32 Global Improvement network.

 

Key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

 

  • Living our Vales and Safety Guarantee
  • Building the culture and mindset necessary for a safe high performance
  • Building effective stakeholder relationships across site & corporate functions.
  • Driving the operations process and discipline necessary to ensure we understand what is possible, what is needed to achieve that, smart prioritisation, calculated risk taking and continual improvement.
  • Govern frontline improvement processes and empower employees to contribute ideas aligned with turnaround objectives.

 

This role is a permanent position on a 4:3, roster, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

  • Proven leadership across complex programme portfolios in heavy industry.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement & disciplined upward communication.
  • Strong analytics & visualisation capability for data‑led decisions.
  • Expert PMO governance, lean methods & cross‑function delivery.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Business, incl. operational analysis & mine planning.
  • Exceptional consulting skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Minimum of 10 years in mining and metals industry, including at least 5 years in leadership roles

 

Successful candidates must hold current First Aid and CPR certification (or complete training via an RTO before starting, with costs reimbursed on commencement).
