ABOUT CANNINGTON 

 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

 

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This role is a Permanent position available on 4:3 4:3 8:6 roster (or variation of), FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

 

As the Senior Hygiene Specialist, you will be responsible for contributing to the development, governance and continuous improvement of health standards, procedures, tools and programmes to enable operations to effectively manage hygiene risk.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

 

  • Lead respiratory and hearing protection programmes to protect workforce health
  • Manage hygiene budgets, procurement processes and financial approvals in SAP
  • Review & update Health Risk Assessments to reflect operational changes and evolving risk profiles
  • Conduct inspections, evaluate control measures and recommend improvements
  • Direct contractors and provide oversight of technical reporting and documentation

 

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

  • Experience in a similar role, driving strategic change initiatives within mining or heavy industry
  • Influencing diverse stakeholders through clear analysis, reporting and communication
  • Leading and developing direct reports while managing contractor performance
  • Analysing data to identify issues and recommend practical, riskbased solutions

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Safety, Engineering or associated discipline
  • Full Membership of the Institute of Occupational Hygienists (MAIOH)
  • Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH) - Desirable
  • Willingness to obtain Mining Supervisor (G1, G8, G9) prior to commencement
  • Current Manual Drivers Licence
