 ABOUT CANNINGTON  

 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

 

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a 12-month fixed term position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane.

 

As a Senior Geologist - Mine, you'll ensure that all geological information and interpretations meet our high-quality standards and are adequately incorporated into the 2YP Production Planning cycle.

Your role involves delivering geological information to the Resource Planning and Development team and ensuring it's integrated into the Resource Block Model.

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Geology, other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

 

  • Lead safety coaching through Workplace Interactions and TAKE5s, manage team compliance with health and safety procedures, and implement improvement initiatives
  • Oversee diamond drill scheduling, logging and analysis, ensure proper resource definition in databases, and integrate geological mapping with 3D drill hole data
  • Deliver accurate geological information to Mine Planning, Metallurgy and Resource Development teams, conduct block reviews, and complete monthly reports, including ROM stocks and Mine vs Mill reconciliations
  • Manage team performance through training, recruitment and yearly reviews, while monitoring costs against budgets and ensuring proper roster coverage

 

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Apply your underground hard rock experience alongside QMS123 certification to manage staff, quality systems and improve mining operations, with opportunities to expand your project management skillset.
  • Put your G2 qualification to work while designing drill programs and managing budgets - or we'll support you in getting this qualification through our training program.
  • Use your knowledge of geological modelling and sampling theory to investigate grade forecast compliance, working with tools like Datamine and Leapfrog to analyse and solve complex mining challenges.
  • Utilise your understanding of QAQC and mine-to-mill reconciliation experience to maintain high standards and drive improvements in our operations.
  • Manage critical project schedules by utilising your skills in project generation, scoping and time allocation ensuring milestones are met safely and on schedule.
  • Take charge of investigations applying your mining geology experience - making our workplace safer and processes more efficient through practical, data-driven solutions.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology (minimum)
