ABOUT CANNINGTON 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

SOUTH32 VACATION PROGRAM

We’re looking for our future leaders and technical experts and have exciting opportunities for students in their penultimate year. Our 2026 opportunities on offer cover the following disciplines:

• Mining Engineer
• Electrical Engineer
• Structural Engineer
• Metallurgical Engineer / Chemical Engineer
• Mechanical Engineer

Our Vacation Program runs over a 12-week period and is a pathway to our Graduate Program. It provides practical and hands-on experience to develop new skills and gain technical knowledge required to build your career and reach your potential. 

The program provides you with a unique opportunity to learn and excel in your chosen career. When you join the South32 Vacation Program you will: 

• Gain practical and meaningful experience at your preferred operation 
• Undertake a project relevant to your degree that you will own and deliver 
• Extend your professional network with colleagues from across the globe

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a 12 week Fixed-Term Contract on an 8:6 roster, Monday-Monday. FIFO is from Brisbane and Townsville, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires to our Cannington Operation.

ABOUT YOU 

To be eligible, you will be: 

• Currently studying relevant degree
• An Australian citizen or permanent resident
• Available for full duration of the program: 12 weeks, commencing November 2026
• Hold a current Drivers Licence
