Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

 

 

 

South32 are seeking an experienced candidate for the role of Local Sourcing Lead for our Cannington mine in Queensland.  Reporting to the Operational Supply Manager for Australia, this role will be based at our Cannington Mine near Mount Isa.

This role will provide leadership and direction enabling productivity through effective execution of people processes, building strong teams, and creating the South32 culture.

This role will initially be offered on a permanent basis on a FIFO roster of 4/3 from Brisbane or Townsville.  

 

Purpose

Performs a span of control role by providing leadership to the team in ensuring the operation’s supply needs strategically match with the market, takes responsibility for supplier management and development as well as contract management and engages with the team to track and monitor performance targets of optimal cost of ownership and surety of supply.

 

Accountabilities

  • Monitors expectations, understanding and application of South32’s Supply Category Management processes within the team to support compliance with local requirements.
  • Supports Global Category managers with performance and insights on the management of Supply risk and the relevant mitigating actions.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand business objectives, plans and requirements.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum delivery quality and sustained performance in line with business objectives.
  • Coordinates market intelligence and analysis to build robust local category and sourcing strategies.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance to ensure category strategies and contract coverage adequately supports Maintenance Strategies, 2 year budget and 5 year execution plans.
  • Reviews local category strategies to ensure cost effectiveness, optimal contract portfolio and process automation.
  • Leads and supports development of the Local Procurement Plan.
  • Supplier Performance management and Supports resolution of supplier performance issues and escalations.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Engineering or related disciplines
  • Strong experience in developing commercial strategies and leading high value strategic negotiations
  • Demonstrated experience in a commercial/ contract Supply environment, Mining & Metals and sourcing and/or Procurement experience will be preferred
