ABOUT CANNINGTON
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville, or DIDO from Mount Isa.
As the Indigenous Participation Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting South32’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) initiatives at Cannington by fostering strong relationships with Traditional Owners and promoting Indigenous employment opportunities.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Collaborate with stakeholders and HR to develop and implement strategies for attracting and retaining Indigenous personnel, aligning with South32’s inclusion goals.
- Establish relationships with job and training providers to source applicants and support successful employment outcomes.
- Monitor Cannington’s RAP employment commitments, providing case management and support as needed for Indigenous personnel.
- Assist External Affairs in building trust with Traditional Owners, ensuring their feedback informs business decisions and community projects
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Strong understanding and empathy for local Indigenous culture and community needs, with the ability to engage effectively with Traditional Owners.
- Experience in implementing Indigenous employment and training initiatives in the private sector.
- Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in engaging with Indigenous communities and supporting Reconciliation Action Plan activities and events.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Current Drivers Licence
