ABOUT CANNINGTON
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a permanent position on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Townsville, Brisbane and Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.
As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering timely, high‑quality geotechnical guidance that supports safe, efficient and well‑informed planning, scheduling and mining execution activities.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Conduct site investigations to assess ground conditions and inform geotechnical design
- Evaluate stope and tunnel stability to maintain safety and structural integrity
- Develop ground support strategies and recommend measures to reduce rockfall risk
- Implement monitoring programs using seismic analysis, damage mapping and Lidar assessment
- Identify geotechnical hazards and ensure adherence to regulatory and operational standards
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Strong background in hard‑rock underground operations, ideally with open stope exposure
- Ability to apply risk‑based problem‑solving to complex geotechnical challenges
- Clear and confident communication that supports collaboration across teams
- Commitment to safe work practices and a proactive approach to hazard awareness
Qualifications for this position are:
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Geology, Civil, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics
