ABOUT CANNINGTON
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on an 8:6 roster, Thursday to Thursday, FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.
Cannington has a dynamic, permanent emergency response team which is supplemented and supported by volunteer Emergency Response Team members. These volunteers take on ERT responsibilities in addition to their substantive roles from various departments across the operation.
As the Emergency Response Officer, you will play a key role in Cannington’s emergency management structure and would be required to respond to incidents at any point during your time on site.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Lead emergency response training and ensure content stays current and effective
- Maintain and service emergency response equipment for full operational readiness
- Carry out maintenance on portable fire equipment, underground systems and fresh‑air chambers
- Uphold Cannington’s safety and health standards through proactive workplace engagement
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Prior experience in a mine rescue or industry equivalent role
- Commitment to a positive safety culture
- Proven ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Able to adapt to dynamic deadlines with precision and ease
Qualifications for this position are:
- Cert III Mine Emergency Response and Rescue
- Cert IV pre-hospital care (desirable)
- Cert IV Trainer assessor (desirable)
- Cert III Public Safety (Firefighting) - (desirable)
- Medium Rigid truck licence or higher (or ability to obtain)
- High Risk Work Licence – Rigging, Dogging, Forklift
