ABOUT CANNINGTON  

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a permanent position on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Brisbane/Townsville or DIDO from Mount Isa to Cannington.

As the Backfill Engineer reporting to the Senior Operations Engineer, you will be part of the Operations Engineering team and responsible for delivering paste designs and schedules that align with the monthly plan. Safety, quality, and technical precision are key elements of the role.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Provide subject matter expertise for all operational and design aspects of paste filling.
• Work with Mine Planners to deliver longer term reticulation design for new mining areas.
• Performance monitoring of paste, including paste fill reconciliations, daily data capture and schedule variance commentary.
• Undertake QA/QC analysis alongside Geotechnical Engineers to ensure suitability for paste re-development and adjacency mining.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Significant Paste or Backfill experience in an Underground Mining Operation.
• Competent user of Deswik.CAD and Microsoft Excel.
• Detail oriented with the ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and consistent manner.
• Strong people skills, comfortable engaging with operators through to site senior management.

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary qualification in Mining, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• In the absence of a formal qualification, applicants with significant experience in an Underground Mining Operation and environment will be considered.
