The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona
The Role
Supports the management of construction activities for the Exploration and Ventilation Shafts. Responsibilities include support of management of multiple contractors and subcontractors including: planning, scheduling, reporting, health, safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, community relations and meeting targets within budget and on time. This role requires heavy field interaction and interface with integrated construction teams.
Accountabilities (Include but are not limited to):
Individual Accountabilities:
- Support the management of the site construction contractors
- Ensure that work is always executed in a safe manner
- Ensure that South32 corporate safety and business goals are met or exceeded
- Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s environmental policies and plans
- Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s community relations policies and plans
- Assist with the preparation of sourcing strategies for major works packages as required
- Assist with preparation of annual budgets with input and assistance from the Project Controls Team
- Review and provides input on project construction designs and schedules
- Assist with timely submission of contractor progress and cost status reports to the Project Controls Team
- Assist with implementation of remedial recovery actions as required
- Ensure strict compliance with South32 Change Management processes
- Ensure timely delivery of project construction services to internal stakeholders
- Coordinate construction contractor risk assessments with input and assistance from the South32 Risk Specialist, Engineering Department, Consultants, internal stakeholders and Construction Team
- Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to organize the work of construction contractors and vendors
- Coordinate any work inputs from South32 Site Services
- Work with Project Services to ensure that equipment and material deliveries are coordinated and ensure that Care & Perseveration requirements are correctly implemented and documented
- Periodically reviews the Construction Management Execution Plan to ensure conformity with current requirements and revise as required
- Assist with the compilation of construction documentation for upcoming work packages
- Identify contractor performance issues and work with internal stakeholders to resolve issues
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including Federal, State, and Local
- Ensure conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
- Ensure that all work conforms with the specified quality standards
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager Project Execution and Construction
Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
- Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering or Technical Degree in Construction or Similar, and appropriate Trade qualifications (Prior shaft sinking experience can be considered in lieu of Degree)
- Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
- 3+ years of large-scale mining construction site experience
- Experience in Shaft Sinking and Shaft Surface Construction works
- Experience working with teams and interacting with customers
- Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
- Proven track record maintaining a safe work culture
- Experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations
- Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
- Knowledge of shaft and other underground construction practices
- Knowledge of management concepts and best practices
- Effective communication and engagement skills
- Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
- Ability to read, interpret, and comment on 2D and 3D designs and specifications for the work
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or other CAD software packages
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Assist with Survey and QA/QC work as needed
- Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
- Strong English language written and oral communication skills
