Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

This role is a (Permanent) position from (Tucson, Az)


As the (Mining Engineer -Mine Services) you will be responsible for being involved with ventilation, paste fill, power, instrumentation, dewatering, and projects. Main responsibilities will include airflow readings and atmospheric measurements for the Taylor Shafts and Clark Decline, mine design review, short range ventilation designs, assist with project execution of main ventilation and cooling infrastructure, assist with research and development of future monitoring systems and the implementation of those systems, development of SOP’s for current work and for future tasks when the mine is in production.


Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

  • Creation and planning of short-range vent strategy in line with the long-range strategy.
  • Communication of vent plan and strategy to engineering and operations personnel.
  • Helping with the management of Ventilation and Escape Plans.
  • Involvement with surface ventilation infrastructure projects.
  • Implementation of monitoring systems for vent, paste, and dewatering.
  • Utility hole strategy for power and dewatering.
  • Understand and communicate power requirements.
  • Work closely with operational technology group to help implement SCADA system.
  • Plan, procure, and oversee installation of underground ventilation infrastructure.
  • Review and write SOP’s.


About You

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Underground mining experience a plus.
  • Field Ventilation data gathering including velocity measurements, CFM calculations, and pressure differential readings
  • CAD modelling software, Deswik preferred
  • Ventilation modelling software, VentSim preferred
  • Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project
