Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come. 

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a (Permanent) position from (Tucson, Az)

 

As the (Construction Engineer - Underground), you will be responsible for assisting in management of engineering activities and skilled, technical, and professional staff engaged in construction of underground facilities as well process facilities, surface infrastructure, roads, dams, water treatment plants, power infrastructure, maintenance and administrative buildings, and all other onsite and offsite infrastructure. Responsibilities include liaising with engineering contractors as well as internal stake holders to ensure engineering completeness. This role will be heavily focused on the detail engineering of both the underground mine and the process plant enabling efficient construction.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Assists with preparation of annual budgets with input and assistance from the Project Controls Team;
  • Ensures timely delivery of project construction services to internal stakeholders;
  • Participates in construction contractor risk assessments with input and assistance from the S32 Risk Specialist, S32 Engineering Department, Consultants, internal stakeholders and the S32 Construction Team;
  • Ensure that S32 Virtual Design and Construction initiatives are properly resourced, and that work is executed in accordance with applicable S32 technology objectives;
  • Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to help facilitate the work of construction contractors and vendors;
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and building code requirements including Federal, State, and Local;
  • Assist to Engineering Manager on the review of all underground engineering documentation produced internally or by any contractor.
  • Participates in the S32 site Quality Circles initiative;
  • Ensures that all work conforms with the specified quality standards;
  • Assigns, schedules, reviews, and evaluates work of subordinates;

 

About You

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mining Engineering required.
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance.
  • Minimum 6 yr of mining underground engineering/construction support.
  • Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts;
  • Experience with Building Information Management systems;
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations.
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
