The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position


The position of Specialist Planning & Improvement identifies, implements and sustains business improvement opportunities for South32 Marketing.

This role will see you have specific focus on technology and systems, with the current focus on automation, dashboards and/or data analytics (e.g. Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Power BI, SQL).


Reporting to the Risk Lead, your key accountabilities are:

  • Uphold the South32’s values and apply the Code of Business Conduct in all activities
  • Actively participate in the Planning and Improvement team activities and contribute to the improvement / advancement of the team
  • Work cross-functionally with business leaders, Marketing sub-functions and other functions (Technology, Supply, GBS) to identify, implement and sustain business improvement opportunities.
    • This role will have a specific focus on technology and systems. The current focus is on automation, dashboards and/or data analytics (e.g. Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Power BI, SQL)
  • Supports the implementation and embedment of the Marketing Operating System Continuous Improvement program. 
    • Acts as the focal point for the Marketing Operating System Continuous Improvement Program
    • Create reports and dashboards for the MLT and broader Marketing Team to communicate status of improvement projects across Marketing and the health of the Continuous Improvement program
    • Maintain and continuously improve the opportunity prioritisation framework


About You

  • Understanding of South32’s Marketing function
  • Problem solving and root cause identification skills
  • Business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and navigating complex problems in large global organisations
  • Passion for continuous organisational improvement
  • Experience with automation, dashboards and/or data analytics (e.g. Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Power BI, SQL)
  • Strong technical knowledge of 1SAP
  • Understanding of Marketing’s improvement landscape, including opportunities and risks
  • Familiarity with South32s approach to risk assessment, management and assurance
  • Track record of successfully implementing large-scale system roll outs across a global organisation



  • Relevant Tertiary qualification
  • Fluent English, both verbal and written
