ABOUT HILLSIDE

Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As a Specialist Health, Safety & Environment , you will be responsible to supports the successful delivery of the Hillside HSER Strategy at departmental level. The purpose of the role is to assist departmental Line Managers with effective execution of HSER deliverable to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements and continual improvement in departmental HSER performance.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Develop and implement departmental HSER related Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Audit files and all related HSE documents;
  • Interface with departmental leadership to ensure departmental alignment with the overall Hillside HSER business plan and deliverables;
  • Discuss, record and signoff of findings in inspection reports;
  • Develop, maintain, and review departmental baseline risk registers;
  • Follow up and close out all preventative and corrective actions;
  • Monitor compliance to required controls, procedures, and applicable legislation;
  • Analyze trends and report to line Managers;
  • Facilitate hazard and event investigations and ensure quality outcomes;
  • Challenge line on identified gaps (e.g. reporting, safety standard compliance, risks and hazards, etc.);
  • Audit and verify the effective implementation of controls and compliance to legal and other requirement;
  • Conduct and participate in internal Audit in respective areas;
  • Provide service and support in any incident or emergency;
  • Drive proactive hazard reporting in the department;
  • Participate in Emergency drills;
  • A proven track record of implementing safety interventions within a workforce comprising of shift workers, contractors, and dayshift staff with proven results.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Must have minimum of 4 - 6 years’ experience in safety management in a heavy industrial environment;
  • Experience in ICAM methodology is advantageous;
  • In depth knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, No 85 of 1993 is advantageous;
  • In depth knowledge of ISO is advantageous.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

  • Serious contenders will have a Degree / B-Tech/ National Diploma in Health & Safety or Environment.
