Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position. As Specialist Clinic and Medical Emergency Response, you will manage the onsite clinic and medical emergency response (MER) at Hillside to ensure effective occupational medical and MER service delivery and continual improvement within these disciplines

 

Key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Develop and implement standards and procedures to define requirements for effective occupational medical services and medical emergency response (MER) at the operation;
  • Lead occupational medical and MER governance processes to ensure legal and company compliance;
  • Monitor regulatory changes, technology enhancement and leading practice in occupational medicine and MER and advise Hillside leadership accordingly;
  • Provide input into the development of the Hillside HSER business plan. Define site objectives and targets for effective occupational medical monitoring and MER. Track and report on progress;
  • Ensure safe and effective deployment of appointed medical and MER service providers;
  • Ensure that clinic and MER infrastructure are well managed and maintained;
  • Ensure that occupational medical examinations are risk based and legally compliant;
  • Report internally (including corporate) and externally on occupational medical and MER performance;
  • Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of all captured occupational medical and MER data;
  • Interrogate and analyse available medical files and data for early detection of potential illness and identification of emerging risks. Advise on options for risk mitigation. Support implementation of controls;
  • Advise line on potential long-term liability on occupational illness cases;
  • Lead occupational illness investigations. Ensure effective case management following injury or illness;
  • Ensure effective chronic medical monitoring and management. Conduct periodical wellness campaigns;
  • Identify, lead and facilitate occupational medical and MER improvement initiatives;
  • Develop occupational medical and MER awareness, capability and capacity;
  • Interface with corporate, regulatory and industry stakeholders on behalf of Hillside, where required;
  • Ensure the retention, filing and maintenance of medical records in accordance with legal requirements;
  • Manage the appointed occupational medical and MER contract. SPA for appointed service provider;
  • Develop and manage the occupational medical and MER budget at Hillside.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years in experience in occupational medicine and MER;
  • In depth knowledge of occupational medical monitoring and MER;
  • The proven ability to lead and manage contractors;
  • The ability to inspire, engage, influence and challenge at all levels to achieve desired outcomes.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

  • Bachelor of Nursing (B.Cur or B.Nursing) or Diploma in Nursing;
  • Specialisation in Occupational Health with an Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing;
  • Active registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
