ABOUT HILLSIDE

Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position. As a Principal Socio-Economic Development, your role requires you to coordinate, facilitate and support the delivery of Hillside Aluminium’s Community Development Strategy, and demonstrate South32’s commitment to fulfilling its stated purpose.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Strategic development of Hillside Aluminium social investment plan in line with the business plan, and Municipal IDP’s; execute social development projects on time, budget, including adhering to required governance structures; project monitoring and evaluation as per South32’s Community Standard
  • Support engagements with key Government departments and community organisations to enhance and protect the company's brand;
  • Monitor community and political developments, events and activities that may impact the operation and develop mitigation plans;
  • Provide input into sustainability strategies related to social development and social license to operate, including environmental impacts and social impacts and opportunities.

 

 

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Senior Socio-Economic role;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and Zulu is an added advantage;
  • Public Speaking and stakeholder skills are essential;
  • Track record of local and regional partnership development is essential;
  • Thorough understanding of legislation and policies relating to transformation is essential;
  • Sound understanding of Government structures and workings on a provincial and local level is essential;
  • In-depth knowledge of how community projects are delivered from study to execution phase is essential;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in impact measurement of community projects is essential.

 

 

Qualifications for this role are:

  • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTech/National Diploma in Social Sciences/ Economics/ Development studies;
  • Business/Project Management qualification is advantageous.
