ABOUT HILLSIDE:

Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position. 

As a Manager Health, Safety, Environment & Risk you will lead the Health, Safety, Environment and Risk (HSER) function at Hillside to ensure effective HSER risk management, compliance with regulatory and company requirements, continual improvement in HSER performance and successful delivery of the Hillside HSER strategy

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

Develop and implement Occupational Health, Hygiene, Safety, Environmental and Risk policies, standards, and procedures for Hillside;
Ensure compliance with company and legal HSER requirements;
Continuously monitor HSER related regulatory changes, technology enhancement and leading practice. Advise Hillside leadership on impact, opportunities, and mitigation;
Develop the HSER business plan for Hillside defining short-, medium- and long-term HSER objectives and targets. Ensure alignment with Company objectives and targets and track and report on progress;
Monitor and evaluate emerging health, hygiene, safety and environmental risks and continually review the site material risk register;
Ensure that HSER requirements are integrated into operational planning;
Develop HSER awareness, capability and capacity within the operation and develop talent;
Interface with corporate, regulatory, industry and community bodies on behalf of Hillside where required;
Monitor and report on HSER performance at the operation. Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of all HSER related data;
Ensure effective incident investigations and root cause analysis. Track effective close-out to prevent repeat events and reduce overall HSER risk;
Ensure adequate capability and resources (people and equipment) to effectively manage on-site HSER requirements (including monitoring equipment, clinic and medical emergency response);
Lead and manage the HSER team and related budget at Hillside.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

Minimum of 10 years in experience in HSER functional experience in operational and/or corporate roles of which at least 3 years in a leadership capacity;
In depth knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health, Hygiene, Safety, Environmental and Risk management principles;
The proven ability to lead and build high performing teams;
The ability to inspire, engage, influence and challenge at all levels to achieve desired outcomes;
Experience in leading change initiatives.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

Degree / BTech or equivalent in the Health, Safety, Environment, Engineering and Risk sciences.
