Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As an Engineer Standards, Change Control & Technical Support, you will be responsible for providing specialized technical support and expertise to the Operation and manage defined tasks associated with modifications and small projects in accordance with relevant processes, standards, and performance targets. Ensure a robust change control and document management process exists and is followed in the Operation, to enable the accurate maintenance of the Operation’s blueprint, reflecting any approved modifications of its plant, equipment and infrastructure.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
• Lead the execution of the defined change control and document management process for an allocated Operational area;
• Govern and control all technical documentation (incl. engineering standards, specifications, procedures, control system programs and drawings) from which the Operation is designed, constructed, operated, and maintained;
• Ensure content of technical documentation for own discipline is maintained to reflect the “as built” condition as per authorized modifications and changes. Responsible to safeguard blueprint of plant;
• Verify that Standards & Change Control employees and contractors adhere to work standards, are competent, and understand the purpose and functionality of critical controls relevant to their work;
• Promote operational discipline in work execution, ensure quality of completed tasks, and enhance technical knowledge of team members;
• Conceptualize design solutions to meet customer requirements by liaising closely with other departments and customers for concept definitions and participation in the preparation of the scope of work for projects;
• Prepare detail drawings, technical documents and specifications;
• Project Front-end Load Capital projects in accordance with South32 Projects Management Framework;
• Assist in the preparation of planning/costing activities for projects;
• Provide deep technical Engineering subject matter expertise and consultative support in respective technical discipline(s) for the Operation;
• Supports the inspection of plant, equipment and infrastructure related to the asset integrity standards;
• Ensure compliance to the defined Standards & Change Control processes, Operational defined processes and standards, statutory legislation, Group Level Documents, Safety Standards, and Industry or Government Standards;
• Project manage the allocated OPEX Projects to the defined scope, budget, schedule, standards, and specifications;
• Ensure that designs comply with sound Engineering principles and legislative requirements.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
• Minimum 4 – 6 years Experience in the Engineering Standards & Change Control area;
• Design experience within a heavy industry, materials handling or manufacturing environment is advantageous;
• Working experience with Microsoft Projects Professional and SAP is essential;
• AutoCAD or equivalent is essential;
• Detailed knowledge of procedures related to the maintenance and governance of Engineering documentation and sound knowledge of related operational functions;
• Extensive technical background with previous project experience in various technical disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation).
Qualifications for this role are:
• Degree/B Tech or National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation)
• Project Management Professional (PMP) would be advantageous.
