ABOUT THE ROLE

This full-time, permanent position will be at our head office in Perth.

We understand and value the benefits of flexibility, and we operate a hybrid work model that allows for a mix of in-office and remote work arrangements, both in the office and from home.

As Principal Technical Marketing, you will be working closely with our operations and marketing teams to ensure the safe loading and transportation of our traded commodities, and their continued access to global markets.  This will require you to understand maritime safety and product regulatory requirements and proactively engage with stakeholders across the business to ensure compliance is maintained. This work is essential to deliver stable and predictable performance from our operations, while continually improving their competitiveness.

Reporting to the Group Manager Technical Marketing, other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Coordinate compliance audits and risk assessments to keep us operating smoothly.
  • Work with teams across the business to deliver consistent performance while finding ways to improve how we compete in the market. You'll need to understand our marketing approach well enough to set the right priorities.
  • Partner with different teams and commodity groups to drive improvements and maintain high standards. You'll also represent South32 at industry events and work with external associations to stay connected with what's happening in our sector.
  • Bring in external advisors and consultants when we need specialised regulatory support and provide training to South32 employees who work in this area to ensure everyone stays compliant and informed.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Your regulatory compliance experience comes from working in commodity marketing, mining, smelting, or similar heavy industry operations where you've set up and maintained processes to:
    • Meet international shipping requirements (i.e. the International Maritime Organisation’s requirements for the safe shipping of bulk cargoes);
    • Develop and maintain safety data sheets in compliance with chemical classification and labelling standards
    • Ensure continued access to markets by compliance with regional product regulatory requirements such as EU REACH or the US TSCA
  • Strong stakeholder management is second nature to you - you know how to work with different teams, departments, and external partners to get everyone aligned and moving in the same direction. People understand what you're asking for and why it matters.
  • Being a clear communicator means you can write technical documents that people understand and communicate complex requirements in a way that makes sense to different audiences across the business.
  • As someone who is self-directed and organised, you manage your time well, stay on top of multiple priorities, and understand why quality controls and standards matter in this type of work.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office applications allows you to use these tools effectively in your daily work.

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Tertiary degree qualifications or demonstrated experience in relevant disciplines - i.e. Business, Supply Chain, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering, Chemistry, or related
