ABOUT PERTH OFFICE
South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This permanent position will be held in our Perth offices. We understand and value the benefits of flexibility and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).
As Principal Security CEM and Aviation, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing South32's enterprise-wide security, safety, aviation, crisis and emergency management strategy to protect our people, assets, and reputation. You'll integrate physical security, emergency preparedness, and risk management across our international operations, providing strategic direction and operational expertise to ensure safe, secure operations that align with our company values. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on guidance, making you the key expert who helps teams navigate complex security challenges while upholding our commitment to ensuring everyone returns home safely.
Reporting to the Group Manager Safety & Security other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Create and continuously enhance South32's Global Security, Aviation, and Emergency Management Framework, ensuring it aligns with our risk tolerance, business goals, and operational realities, while meeting international standards such as ISO 45001 and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
- Oversee comprehensive security risk assessments, threat intelligence, site security programs, travel safety, and executive protection services, while partnering with Operations teams to integrate these critical controls into our South32 Operating System.
- Provide guidance and second-line assurance to security, safety, and emergency management leaders across operations, supporting major incident investigations and coordinating with legal, regulatory, and law enforcement authorities when needed.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal teams and external partners, including government agencies, intelligence networks, and industry security professionals, to enhance our collective security capabilities.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Bring comprehensive experience in physical and personnel security, emergency response planning, security technology, and investigation protocols, with a strong foundation in safety-critical processes and risk-based management systems developed through work in mining, resources, or similar industries.
- Demonstrate minimum 10 years of leadership experience in operational and corporate security, safety, and emergency management, with proven success leading enterprise-level programs while maintaining a hands-on approach to implementation and continuous improvement.
- Show your effectiveness in operating across culturally diverse and politically complex environments, with significant experience in high-risk jurisdictions and remote operations where you've successfully navigated sensitive situations while building trust and delivering results.
- Bring experience in crisis communications, stakeholder coordination, and high-consequence decision-making, maintaining composure and clarity when it matters most, particularly in challenging operational environments.
- Embody South32's values of care, trust, and togetherness with high integrity, resilience, and discretion, combined with strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution capabilities proven through your leadership experience.
- Willingness and ability to travel globally to operational and remote sites, often on short notice, demonstrating the flexibility and dedication needed to support our teams wherever they are, backed by your experience in remote operations.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Security Management, Safety, Emergency Management, Risk Management or related discipline.
- Professional certifications (highly desirable): CPP, PSP, CEM, or equivalent; additional qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety.
