This position will be based out of our Perth head office in the heart of the CBD and be offered as a permanent contract.

 

 

About the role

 

Reporting to the Manager Health and Safety the purpose of this role is to provide safety and security  management subject matter expertise across the South32 business to:

  • enable the business to adhere to the global Security and Crisis and Emergency and Safety Standards
  • support legal compliance and material-risk mitigation at the operational level
  • mitigate business level material risks through the identification and delivery of strategic improvements projects in collaboration with operation-based teams and other functions where relevant

 

Other accountabilities include:

 

  •    provide technical (SME) advice on material Security and Business Continuity matters to management, functional and operational teams across multiple geographic locations to support compliance with regulatory requirements, approvals and internal company standards
  •    influence the strategic direction of the broader business with respect to Security and Crisis and Emergency management to reduce long-term risk exposure and promote enduring safety outcomes
  •    provide input into the design of the global Security and Crisis and Emergency Management Standard and Safety Standard and develop processes that support the effective deployment of the Standard across the business.
  •    engage in external forums to discuss emerging industry wide Security and business continuity issues/ opportunities and guide policy direction (government and industry-based) where relevant to the South32 business
  •    monitor changes to legislative frameworks and industry standards relative to the discipline area/s, and instigate change management processes where required
  •    identify and manage the portfolio of strategic improvement projects (relevant to the assigned discipline area/s) that support the delivery of the South32 business plan/s and functional objectives
  •    Design the 2nd line governance approach and provide governance over the South32 risk profile (relevant to the assigned safety discipline area/s), internal company standards and approvals/authorisations and work with the operations to close-out the identified gaps
  •    Manage the implementation of the Security and Crisis and Emergency Management assurance program, to ensure:
    •     Compliance with South32 Security and Crisis and Emergency Management standard, systems and processes for Health / Safety work
    •     Compliance with relevant statutory requirements
    • Security material risk critical controls are effective including reviews of Health / Safety events

 

 

About you

 

  • Bachelor Degree (Science / Engineering / Safety /Similar)
  •      Detailed (SME) knowledge of safety management processes including Security/ Asset Protection and technologies, relevant industry standards (eg. ICMM) and regulatory requirements across the Australia and Colombian jurisdictions
  •     Specific work experience:
    • site based safety position (min 3 years)
    • with a safety regulatory agency would be advantageous
  •     Requires detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to the effective management of safety related risks.
  •     Demonstrated experience in executing technical safety related work
  •     Participation in accident investigations with sound knowledge of the process involved
