ABOUT OUR PERTH OFFICE

 

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, External Affairs, Sustainability Strategy, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, Legal and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a full-time, permanent position, preferably based in Perth. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)

 

The Principal Nature Strategy will guide our company's approach to nature. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing innovative strategies to manage nature-related risks and opportunities. Collaborate with various departments to implement nature-focused initiatives and provide expert advice to key stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on South32’s sustainability efforts.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Nature Strategy key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Shape our environmental future: Lead the development of our approach to nature, inclusive of biodiversity, water, land, and pollution.
  • Drive positive change: Collaborate across teams to implement innovative nature initiatives, align our operations with our sustainability goals, and nurture our commitment to nature.
  • Stay ahead of the curve: Monitor global nature-related trends, policies, and technologies, providing valuable insights to guide our company's sustainability practices and reporting.
  • Cultivate partnerships: Represent our organisation in key industry forums and working groups, fostering relationships that amplify our impact and influence positive policy changes.

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will ideally have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

  • We value candidates with 7+ years of experience, especially those who have worked in large organisations. Your background in the resources sector would be a plus.
  • Share your passion for sustainability and deep understanding of nature-related issues, risks, and opportunities in diverse business environments.
  • Showcase your ability to influence decisions through compelling communication, helping shape our nature strategies across all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrate your knack for applying research methodologies and analytical thinking to solve complex problems, even in ambiguous situations.
  • Highlight your experience building effective relationships with diverse groups and facilitating positive business outcomes through teamwork and mutual understanding.
  • Share your governance and assurance activities background, ensuring our nature initiatives meet the highest standards and stakeholder expectations.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar in environmental or sustainability-related fields
