The Role

Reporting to the Manager Community the role will provide subject matter expertise in community engagement to:

  • Drive the implementation of South32 Community Standard and incorporate improvement opportunities.
  • Support the identification and management of Operation’s community risks, impacts and management controls.
  • Manage the processes for successful social entry and exit.
  • Identify opportunities to realise community benefits and influence the business to realise these opportunities.

 

Accountabilities

  • Provide technical advice on approaches to management of community stakeholder engagement, investment and issues management.
  • Monitor emerging global social trends and issues, develop company positions to respond and support operations to manage these issues. 
  • Influence strategic direction of the business to realise the goal of becoming a Social Leader and proactively manage community risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of South32 Community Standard and development of company guidelines to support implementation.
  • Define and implement the approach for successful social entry and exit for business optimisation and growth activities.
  • Implement governance processes for:
    • Stakeholder engagement
    • Community investment
    • Complaints and grievance management
  • Contribute to the design and completion of 2nd line assurance activities for Community performance requirements.
  • Lead the development, implementation and improvement of engagement with Indigenous peoples including the South32 Reconciliation Action Plan in Australia.
  • Implement and maintain processes for internal and external corporate reporting including the measurement of impact of Community Investment.
  • Lead South32 strategic community investment.
  • Lead the improvement of organisational community engagement skills. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Detailed knowledge of community engagement approaches, current issues and global trends and responses.
  • Understanding of social research methodology to understand community and operation context and the measurement of effectiveness.
  • Experience in the identification of business impacts, opportunities and development of responses.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships across multiple levels.
  • Ability to influence business decisions and management approaches
  • Experience in working in ambiguous situations and ability to apply high level analytical and strategic thinking to development a resolution.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in completing governance and assurance activities
  • Site or corporate experience preferred
