ABOUT OUR PERTH OFFICE 

  

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, External Affairs, Sustainability Strategy, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, Legal and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a permanent full-time position, preferably based in either our Perth or Brisbane offices. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate ahybrid work model (in the office and from home) 

 

As Principal Approvals Planning and Regulations, you will guide South32's global operations through regulatory landscapes. Your insight will keep us compliant, agile to environmental policy shifts, and primed for future approvals. Supporting our long term planning and project teams, artfully blending service, governance, and collaboration to ensure our continued success.

 

Reporting to the Manager Permitting and Growth, key responsibilities include:   

  • Guide permitting and approvals strategies across operations and projects, maintaining knowledge portals and developing global tools to support environmental standards, regulatory reform, and compliance tracking.
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice on regulatory changes, collaborating with legal, sustainability, and site teams to align approval strategies with operational plans and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in stewardship programs to address risks and opportunities in approval processes and compliance, supporting the development of compliance registers and budgeting priorities.
  • Engage in industry forums and regulatory processes to influence policy while contributing to team development, knowledge-sharing networks, and upholding South32's values and leadership model.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

 You will ideally have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:   

  • Demonstrate comprehensive environmental expertise in Australian regulations, underpinned by eight years of practical experience
  • Exhibit a proven track record in planning complex environmental approvals through effective collaborative leadership
  • Advanced communication skills to effectively influence decisions across all organisational levels
  • Ability to establish and maintain robust professional relationships, both in-person and remotely
  • Adaptability and strong organisational skills to meet evolving business requirements
  • Engaging diverse stakeholders to contribute to shaping policy direction.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Science, Engineering, Legal or similar
