This position will be based out of our Perth head office in the heart of the CBD and will be offered on a 12 month fixed term contract. 



About the role


Reporting to the Tax Manager Australia this role is responsible for coordinating and completing tax compliance an tax accounting deliverables for South32’s Australian entities. The Australian Principal Tax Analyst also supports the Tax Manager Australia in managing revenue authority relationships, reviews and audits and in the provision of direct and indirect tax advice to the Australian business operations and functions.


Other accountabilities include:


Individual Accountabilities

  • Tax compliance
    • Coordination, preparation and lodgement of income tax and profit based royalty returns for Australian entities
    • Coordination, preparation of the payment of all taxes, royalties and refund claims for Australian entities
    • Coordination and review of indirect tax compliance lodgements
    • Coordination, preparation of tax accounting and forecasted tax positions for Australian entities (management and statutory)
    • Preparation of tax compliance and tax accounting processes and associated advice for employee share schemes, financial arrangements and other business driven transactions relevant to Australian entities
    • Ensuring accuracy and optimisation of onshore and offshore intra group service charges within legal parameters
  • Tax controversy
    • Assistance with adhering to revenue authority compliance arrangements including reviews, audits and litigations with authorities in Australia
    • Identification of tax risks
  • Tax advisory
    • Assistance in preparation of tax advice on Australian income tax, royalty and indirect tax matters


Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement process improvement initiatives which mitigate process risk and increase transparency of calculations and outcomes



About you


  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives which mitigate process risk and increase transparency of calculations and outcomes
  • Minimum 8 years experience in a mid-sized or large corporate team or a professional services environment 
  • Demonstrated strong commercial, tax technical and financial accounting experience
  • SAP and CCH Integrator experience an advantage
