The Opportunity


This role sets and manages the South32 training and learning framework, practices and governance to build the competence of our people to perform their work safely and productively in line with all legislative and regulatory obligations.


  • Review and maintain the South32 Training Standard;
  • Review and maintain the SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS) Governance Guideline;
  • Manage the development and delivery of pragmatic, fit for purpose, value adding and accessible training and learning solutions to meet identified training analysis needs and the business strategy;
  • Oversee the management and assessment of training for functional staff;
  • Manage training and assessment records for functional staff, ensuring compliance with any applicable policies, standard(s), procedures and legislation;
  • Manage the global training reporting suite to track and manage workforce training compliance;
  • Establish a global training stewardship regime to ensure compliance and training effectiveness and to identify improvement opportunities; 
  • Manage training and learning technologies and the LMS, as well as the respective vendor contracts and performance;
  • Monitors and continuously improves the performance of learning and training solutions and processes to optimise learning transfer, vendor/provider quality and return on investment;
  • Monitors, reports on and provides insight into training activity to support effect decision making; 
  • Monitor and continuously improve learning and training solutions, processes and tools on the HR Training Hub; and
  • Play a key role in the HR Culture and Capability Function and actively contribute to the wider People and Culture Strategy.

About you


  • Deep understanding of learning and development including adult learning principles, instructional design and program evaluation;
  • Experience leading the design and implementation of learning strategies, policies, projects and initiatives in commercial and/or industrial environments, utilising technology for improved learning transfer for ROI;
  • Broad understanding of the importance of the function as it applies to workforce planning, development and capability;
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing stakeholder demands;
  • Highly developed change and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects;
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills;
  • Outcome focus, results orientated with commitment to delivery of high-quality products on time and within budget; and
  • Experience in heavy industries and mining, with an extensive understanding of the organisational dynamics and demographic requirements of organisations like South32.



  • Tertiary qualification in HR, Learning and Development, Education or Business (preferred)
