The Opportunity


The purpose of the position is to set the direction and provide leadership to the Contractor Management team in executing the Contractor Management System of Work for the Operations and Functions globally. 


The position will lead, coach and shape the culture of the Contractor Management System of Work within the Functional team globally.


Ensures delivery of Contractor Management operational or functional activities to enable compliance and effectiveness of execution and governance over the 1st line verification and 2nd line stewardship activities as set out in the standard and procedure. 


Ensure execution of Global Supply actions and connecting and integrating activities to deliver an effective Contractor Management system of work implementation.


Assist the function with development of local training modules and pathways to deliver the Contractor Management System of Work.


Responsible for the long-term Contractor Management strategies, including the supplier management approach for the function and providing advice to the functional leadership team to make safe and sound commercial decisions that influences the management of contractors aligned with the Lead model at South32.

  • Implement improvement initiatives to streamline and leverage key opportunities in contractor management.
  • Lead collaborative relationships with the Leadership Team, other General/Operational/Functional Managers, and roles within the Contractor Management System of Work across the operation or function and network within South32.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills for the purpose of engaging with internal and external stakeholders to influence key business outcomes. 
  • Play a key role in the HR Culture and Capability Function and actively contribute to the wider People and Culture Strategy.


About you


  • Experienced working with governance or contractor management
  • Previous experience in a mining or related industry
  • Leadership experience 
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills. Able to effectively and creatively challenge people, situations and current thinking. 
  • Skilled and credible in advising others on empowering people management. 
  • Experience in vendor assessment and due diligence processes when selecting suppliers.
  • Experienced in Vendor Management processes to ensure alignment with supply processes.





  • Preferable – tertiary qualification in a relevant degree
  • Experience in Operations or Projects that involved management of Contractors preferred.
