South32's Perth office is based in the heart of the CBD and is a modern, for-purpose workplace designed to foster collaboration, innovation and performance. The office houses key functions including Human Resources, Finance, Investor Relations, Corporate Development, Commercial, Technical, Legal and External Affairs. ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a 12-month fixed-term position. The ideal candidate will be based at our head office in Perth. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).

 

The Tax Analyst will join our supportive tax team, handling direct and indirect tax compliance and tax accounting for our Australian entities. You'll help maintain strong relationships with tax authorities while providing reliable guidance and assistance to business teams across various functions.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Tax - Australia, other key responsibilities include but aren’t limited to: 

 

  • Drive seamless tax compliance by preparing and lodging income tax, royalty and indirect tax returns (GST, FBT, payroll tax, excise) for our Australian entities, while managing payment requests and creating the accounting entries that keep our financial operations running smoothly
  • Support and guide through tax challenges by assisting with revenue authority compliance activities, including reviews and audits, identifying potential tax risks early, and helping prepare thoughtful tax advice on both income tax and indirect tax matters
  • Maintaining our ATO Online Services accounts, ensuring everything runs smoothly
  • Foster continuous improvement by identifying innovative process enhancements that reduce risk, increase transparency in our tax calculations and create better outcomes for the team and business overall

 

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

  • Collaborative professional who works well within teams and takes genuine pride in delivering high-quality work that supports business objectives
  • Strong organisational skills with keen attention to detail - you naturally maintain accuracy and thoroughness in your work, ensuring reliable outcomes for stakeholders
  • Effective relationship-building capabilities - you're comfortable engaging with external partners and stakeholders, creating positive professional connections that benefit the organisation
  • Skilled at managing competing priorities - you can effectively balance multiple deadlines and requirements while maintaining quality standards across all deliverables
  • A supportive team member with technical expertise who enjoys helping colleagues succeed
  • Solid professional foundation, where you bring substantial commercial, tax technical, and financial accounting experience, ideally developed through at least 2 years in a mid-sized or large corporate environment or professional services firm

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Law
  • CA/CPA or equivalent accounting qualification
