Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

As the Shaft Coordinator you will ensure that contractors shaft sinking crews will align with site environmental, health, safety, and loss control systems; promote a culture of fair and transparent relationships with not only contractor shaft sinking crews but the Third Shaft project team as well; ensure that proper training and continuous improvement are integrated into the project execution; perform various QA/QC roles such as data collection; assist with rock mass classification decisions; and perform other duties as assigned.  

Successful candidate will be responsible for: Review of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications; Development and implementation the operational readiness plan; and mine planning engineers in development of mine plans which will implement the new shaft/mine infrastructure.


Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

•    Ensures that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with S32’s environmental and community relations policies and plans;
•    Assist with the preparation of Sourcing Strategies for major works packages as required;
•    Assists with preparation of annual budgets with input and assistance from the Project Controls Team;
•    Coordinates construction contractor risk assessments with input and assistance from the S32 Risk Specialist, S32 Engineering Department, Consultants, internal stakeholders and the S32 Construction Team;
•    Monitor VDC and BXP technology objectives utilizing the S32 approved VDC and BXP metrics;
•    Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to organize the work of construction contractors and vendors;
•    Coordinate the construction engineering program, including the exchange of engineering information among S32, design engineer, and contractors to ensure effective communication and the addressing and tracking of needs, requirements, and issues;
•    Works with Project Services to ensure that equipment and material deliveries are coordinated and ensure that Care & Preservation requirements are correctly implemented and documented;
•    Coordinate the preparation and revision of technical work procedures consistent with project design and construction requirements;
•    Trains, guides, and evaluates the performance of direct reports, making recommendations for improvement where required;
•    Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and building code requirements including Federal, State, and Local;
•    Ensures conformity with industry codes of practice and standards;
•    Participates in the S32 site Quality Circles initiative;
•    Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager Project Execution and Construction.


ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 
•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Degree (Construction or Similar) and appropriate Trade qualifications.
•    3 years of supervisory experience in mining or mine site construction management preferred;
•    Experience managing and coordinating project logistics;
•    Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts;
•    Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture;
•    Experience with Building Information Management systems;
•    Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations.
•    Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
•    Knowledge of construction and trade practices
•    Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
