Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a (Permanent) position from Hermosa Site (Patagonia, Az)

As the (Quality Assurance Manager) you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of quality standards and processes in all areas of the project including but not limited to the concentrator facilities, water treatment facilities, dewatering facilities, materials handling facilities, tailing filtration plant, paste backfill plant, permanent hoisting facilities such as hoist and shaft, and ventilation/refrigeration facilities. Responsibilities include close interaction with multiple contractors influencing key tasks such as planning, scheduling, reporting, health, safety, security, environmental compliance, and meeting targets within budget and on time.  Close integration with site engineering team will be required as well as the integrated construction contractor. This role will ensure compliance with Hermosa quality management plans and systems by our contractors and will lead the greater Quality Assurance team.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Ensures timely delivery of project construction services to internal stakeholders;
• Coordinates risk assessments with input and assistance from the S32 Risk Specialist, S32 Engineering Department, Consultants, internal stakeholders and the S32 Execution and Construction Teams;
• Support and resource the application of Virtual Design and Construction tools to all work executed in accordance with applicable standards;
• Ensure compliance with South32 Digital Project Delivery (DPD) standards and drive utilization of the Digital Asset Platform, including a focus on Smart Completions;
• Monitor opportunities and openly share feedback to continuously improve our Project Operating System and how we leverage technology to integrate our teams and inform decision making;
• Support Project Services and Operational Readiness by ensuring that processes and documentation are transferred and understood by end customers;
• Ensure quality in construction translates into optimal operational and maintenance designs in partnership with Operational Readiness;
• Develop and review the Project Quality Assurance Management Plan to ensure conformity with current requirements, and revise as required;
• Trains, guides, and evaluates the performance of direct reports, making recommendations for improvement where required;
• Identifies contractor performance issues and works internal stakeholders to resolve issues;
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and building code requirements including Federal, State, and Local;

About You

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or relevant field preferred, Technical Degree (Construction or Similar) and/or appropriate Trade qualifications and experience will be considered.
• Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
• Certification of quality control is a strong advantage (ISO 9000 etc.)g English language written and oral communication skills
• Minimum 10 years of large-scale mining construction site management experience across all trades;
• Experience in commissioning complex industrial systems;
• Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts;
• Experience working with teams and interacting with customers;
• Experience with Building Information Management systems;
• Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations.
