The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona

The Role

The QA/ QC Technician supports the management of construction quality assurance and quality control for the main and ventilation shafts. This role requires heavy field interaction and interface with integrated construction teams.

Accountabilities (Include but are not limited to):

Individual Accountabilities:

• Support the quality management of the site construction contractors
• Inspect and verify Contractor’s and Vendor’s work and materials for defects  
• Compose and maintain accurate reports and documentation of field activities
• Identify contractor quality issues and work with Quality Manager to resolve issues
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including Federal, State, and Local
• Ensure conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
• Ensure that all work conforms with the specified quality standards
• Preform other QA/QC duties as assigned by the QA/QC Manager
• Assure Code and Procedural compliance for construction activities related to the Shafts and other construction projects on site as requested
• Ensure timely delivery of project construction QA/QC services to Quality Manager
• Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to inspect and report on the work of construction contractors and vendor supplied materials
• Ensure that work is always executed in a safe manner
• Ensure that South32 corporate safety and business goals are met or exceeded
• Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s environmental policies and plans
• Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s community relations policies and plans

Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Appropriate Trade qualifications preferred
• Ability to drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
• Prior experience with large-scale mining/construction projects as related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control preferred
• Prior underground construction experience preferred
• Experience working with teams and interacting with customers
• Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
• Proven track record maintaining a safe work culture
• Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
• Knowledge of shaft and other underground construction practices preferred
• Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control management concepts and best practices
• Effective communication and engagement skills
• Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
• Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D designs and specifications for the work being preformed
• Preform QA/QC field work as needed
• Document field inspections and distribute results/findings to Quality Manager
• Maintain QA/QC equipment
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
• Strong English language written and oral communication skills
