ABOUT Hermosa

Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As Principal, Industrial Hygiene you will lead and manage  you will lead health and hygiene initiatives for a project, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safeguarding employee health. This role is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Develop and implement health and hygiene plans aligned with S32 governance, ensuring compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations.
• Act as the Hermosa SME for Health Impact Assessments and advise the HSS manager on regulatory changes.
• Mentor the HSS team in monitoring practices and develop local hires into future Occupational Health Advisors.
• Train and support frontline supervisors in occupational health best practices.
• Establish a post-injury care framework and medical onboarding criteria in partnership with HR to support employee well-being and development.
• Build relationships with local medical providers for long-term partnerships supporting medical programs, health surveillance, rehabilitation, and return-to-work initiatives.
• Monitor and manage employee heavy metal blood levels in compliance with HIPAA, while ensuring contractor IH providers align with Hermosa’s IH plan.
• Gather and analyze health data throughout the project lifecycle, identifying and addressing exposure risks through corrective actions and continuous improvement of the IH plan and Health Risk Assessment.
• Implement proactive healthcare initiatives, including health risk training programs across Hermosa.

ABOUT YOU 

• Master’s degree in industrial Hygiene, Public Health or similar
• Certified Industrial Hygienist required, Certified Occupational Hygienist preferred
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 required
• Extensive experience (15 years) adapting a risk approach to Industrial Hygiene and Occupation Health in project and operations
• Ability to develop positive relationships with all levels of organization to support a culture of care
