Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a (Permanent) position from (Patagonia, Az).

As the (Field Hydrogeologist), you will be responsible for safely delivering geotechnical support across operations and project study.  The successful candidate will assist with the management of geotechnical work programs for Hermosa Project’s study and construction scopes, ensuring outputs meet expected schedule and technical quality outcomes.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

• Ensure geotechnical  risks for current and proposed mining areas are analyzed, understood, and communicated to key stakeholders.
• Support site operations team when geotechnical expertise and advise is required, including periodic inspections and audits of key programs and processes.
• Assist in developing and managing the Hermosa geotechnical database to ensure data is up-to-date and accurate for the purposes of mine design.

• Perform geotechnical QA/QC and ensure records comply with MSHA and GCMP requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain monitoring instruments and wireless data collection systems.
• Implementation and verification of the Hermosa Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
• Assist with implementation of underground geotechnical data collection and mapping systems using LiDAR technology.
• Conduct baseline geotechnical data collection using LiDAR, InSAR and Shape Arrays.

About You

You will experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field (required)
• Project management experience – planning, scheduling, monitoring and cost control useful, but not required
• Professional certifications preferred but not required
• 3-5 years of operational or project technical experience in a Geotechnical role (required).
• Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively.
• Practical experience in geotechnical data collection methods and analysis.  
• Contractor management experience (preferred).
• Experience with software such as LeapFrog, Rocscience Suite, Acquire, Map3D and other 3D modeling programs is a plus.
