The Lead Technology role is dedicated to integrating people, processes and technology at the South32 operational site.  In this role, the Lead is responsible for facilitating the technology agenda for their specific site by providing leadership in the management of site-based technical activities, ensuring support and improvement to operational systems.  The Lead Technology will be a member of the operational leadership team and will be an advocate for collaboration between Operations and Technology as well as assisting with qualifying and quantifying improvement and digitisation opportunities.


As the Technology Lead Illawarra Coal, you will be responsible for facilitating the Technology agenda for the Illawarra Coal operations and providing leadership in the management of site-based Information & Operations Technology to support and improve operational and business systems productivity.


As a member of the Illawarra Coal Leadership Team you will be the advocate for Technology and work closely with the Illawarra Coal Business Improvement Lead to identify, qualify and quantify digitisation opportunities. You will also be the advocate for the Illawarra Coal operations team into the Technology function.


This role is based at our Illawarra Coal Complex in Wollongong.

Qualification/s Required

  • Tertiary degree in engineering or computer science or similar related discipline
  • Certifications in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Project Management or Leadership will be advantageous

  • Strong planning and organisational skills – delivers to milestone dates, manages resources effectively, and can juggle multiple activities at once to accomplish goal
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in Information & Operations Technology
  • Experience in leading teams of technical professionals
  • Ability to prioritise, coordinate and organise multiple sources of schedule inputs / performance data
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a systems thinking environment
  • Experience in the development and management of annual operating plans, operating budgets and analysis
  • Proven experience in customer relationship management, problem solving and process improvement
  • Proven success in facilitating and managing conflicting business needs / requirements
  • Experience in operationally-focused management
