ABOUT GM³ and IMC

GM3 is an emerging Australian metallurgical coal mining entity owned by global investment entity Golden Energy and Resources (GEAR) and M Resources, a market leader in metallurgical coal industry services.
Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) produces premium quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.
ABOUT UNDERGROUND COAL SURVEYING
Surveying in an underground coal mine involves the use of modern technologies and software, such as Total Stations, 3D Scanners and AutoCAD, to accurately measure and align the underground roadways. The surveys are then used to draft plans and models of the mine that are integral to the design, planning and safety of the operation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a permanent position initially based at the Dendrobium mine which is, near the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW, and approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney.
As the Cadet / Trainee Surveyor, you’ll be currently studying, or willing to commence study of, a Degree or Diploma in Surveying with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). You’ll be supported with your studies whilst gaining practical on-the-job experience.
Throughout your formal training and practical experience in the workplace, you will have the opportunity to:
- Produce high-quality plans used throughout the mine.
- Sit in on interdepartmental meetings to understand the role surveyors play in the wider mining operation.
- Complete and gain exposure to mining surveys including roadway alignment and detail surveys, control surveys, engineering surveys including setting out mine infrastructure such as conveyor belts and the longwall.
- Get hands-on with modern surveying equipment and software.

- Currently studying, or willing to commence a course by February 2025
- Committed to full-term of the study requirements
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
- Able to work in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong mathematical and spatial awareness
- A current drivers’ licence (provisional licence accepted)
- Access to reliable transport
