Eagle Downs is a large, high quality and fully permitted metallurgical coal development project located approximately 25km south-east of the town of Moranbah.

The Opportunity

 

South32 are seeking an experienced candidate for the role of Underground & Surface Superintendent at Eagle Downs to direct, coordinate, maintain, monitor activities to ensure safety, environmental compliance and security of the site assets during care and maintenance whilst feasibility study is undertaken and after transition to construction and project execution.  

Based on site in Moranbah, this role will report into the Operations Manager.

 

Accountabilities  

  • Demonstrates leadership through personal behaviours that are consistent with Eagle Downs Core Values; Trust, Care, Togetherness and Excellence.
  • Exhibiting a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development demonstrated through personal behaviours and leadership.
  • Monitoring onsite conditions 24/7 using external communications provided and respond to issues that may arise.
  • Ensuring that the work practices, systems and reporting are used are compliant with all EDCM Environmental and Cultural Heritage Approvals, Management Plans and any other statutory requirements.
  • Carrying out Underground ERZ Controller Statutory Inspections as required
  • Liaise with Queensland Mines Rescue Service as Mines Rescue Coordinator and EDCM Representative
  • Assist with Mines Inspectorate site visits
  • In the Drilling / Study phase:
    • Ensuring compliant mobilisation and operation of drilling equipment and early works activities
    • Complying with statutory monitoring, inspection and reporting requirements
    • Site inductions, equipment and workplace inspections
  • Once the project moves to a Construction phase:
    • Proactively implementing and demonstrating Risk Management principles and actions.
    • Managing the site Introduction of Plant & Equipment register and issuing of compliance approvals in liaison with Eagle Downs Coal’s engineering team.
    • Overseeing various contractor works
    • Overseeing the implementation of monitoring and reporting systems and providing input into weekly and monthly reporting

 

About You

  • A QLD Mine Deputy’s ticket is essential for this role, along with a Current Standard 11 Statement of Attainment and a G1, G8, G9 Supervisory Qualification
  • A Maintenance trade or engineering qualification would be highly regarded, along with demonstrated mining and maintenance experience (within the Underground Coal sector)
  • You have a sound understanding of Risk Management principles
  • Advanced computer skills and literacy including the use of 1SAP, Project, Excel, and other relevant applications
  • Strong relationship building and team management skills including the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Proven problem-solving skills i.e. the ability to identify issues, gather data, engage stakeholders and develop solutions / conclusions.
  • Strong stakeholder influencing skills
  • Ability to cope with ambiguity and change.
