ABOUT WESSELS:

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position.

 

As a Technician Ventilation, you will be responsible to direct workplace occupational hygiene and ventilation programmes, execute ventilation assessments, sampling & survey activities, workplace inspections & report on the effectiveness of operational control measures in line with all relevant statutory and company requirements.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

•Monitor, evaluate and report on ventilation, occupational hygiene and environmental conditions to make suitable recommendations;
•Conduct risk assessments, participate in audits, interpret and act on ventilation and occupational hygiene related legislation;
•Assist in the development of ventilation procedures and standards including short term ventilation planning (6-12 months) – Exposure to ventilation simulation models (VENTSIM/VUMA)
•Timeous reporting/escalation of identified control deviations to relevant stakeholders and capturing of events into relevant event reporting systems;
•Facilitate occupational hygiene exposure investigations and track corrective actions through to closure;
•Advice on changes to plans and schedules to minimize the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices;
•Maintain ventilation strategies and systems;
•Emergency escape route plan development and drafting;
•Lamproom legal compliance;
•Ventilation wall construction team inspection and quality control;
•Assist with the management of technical resources and assets.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

•Must have minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Ventilation;
•Computer skills (MS Office Suite/SAP) is essential;
•In depth knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Hygiene & Ventilation legislation and hazard identification is essential;
•Experience in Underground Mining will be advantageous.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

•Grade 12/Matric with Mathematics and Science;
•Certificate in Intermediate Mine Environmental Control.
