ABOUT WESSELS

 

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

 

WHAT SOUTH32 OFFER:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

This role is a permanent full-time position.

 

As a Specialist Ventilation, you will be resposible for managing underground mine ventilation network as well as occupational hygiene exposures at HMM and also to recommend actions in order to ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all HMM working environments. 

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

 

•Develop, implement and verify operational controls that would ensure compliance to Fatal Risk Control Standards and other South32 HSE requirements;
•Develop, update and ensure the use of documentation taking into consideration all HSE and functional requirements and coordinate with the DME;
•Implement systems to review external incidents and conduct investigations into incidents on site to determine root causes;
•Conduct workplace inspections to monitor compliance to legal/statutory requirements and identify gap closing action plans with the intent of ensuring that risks are identified and appropriately addressed to retain license to operate;
•Provide in-depth analysis on HSE data and in conjunction with other business indicators to continuously improve HMM’s HSE standards to achieve a zero harm organization.

 

ABOUT YOU:

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

 

•Must have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Ventilation;
•Computer skills (MS Office Suite/SAP) is essential;
•In depth knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Hygiene & Ventilation legislation and hazard identification is essential;
•Experience in Underground Mining will be advantageous.
 
 

Qualifications for this role are:

 

•Grade 12/Matric with Mathematics and Science;
•Mine Environmental Control certificate;
•Hygiene Qualification.
