ABOUT HMM
Hotazel Manganese Mines (HMM) is made up of two Manganese mines Mamatwan and Wessels. Both operations are located in the Kalahari Basin, home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese reserves.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As a Specialist Risk, you will be responsible for continually improving the Material Risk Profile for the gravitational risks including lifting, fall from heights and dropped & falling objects.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Support the Risk & Control Owners by:
- Conducting field verifications of high-risk work and critical control effectiveness
- Identifying and implementing risk reduction initiatives
- Participating in event and hazard investigations
- Conducting Control Management Activities
- Implementation of risk reduction improvement projects, initiatives and actions
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years relevant safety, risk management, engineering or maintenance, experience in a mining environment;
- Experience in the management of Fatal Risks for Lifting, Falls from Heights and Dropped & Falling Objects;
- Experience in data analysis to identify trends and improvement opportunities;
- Asset performance calculations experience;
- Experience in an underground mine fixed plant & equipment.
- Prepare accurate and timely risk reporting, including emerging trends to key stakeholders (i.e. Risk & Control Owners and Risk Management Committee)
Qualifications for this role are:
- Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science
- National Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Safety Management or similar.
- Eligibility to be considered as a Lifting Machine Inspector (LMI) will be advantageous
