ABOUT WESSELS:

 

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As a Specialist Fire Master, you will be responsible for leading the design, implementation and execution of fire prevention, and firefighting standards and .Coordinate and manage all emergency preparedness and response efforts across the mine.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

•Maintain equipment readiness and oversee fire team competency;
•Liaise with external authorities and manage compliance;
•Conduct and review routinely all fire risk assessments;
•Conduct inspections across the mine;
•Ensure compliance to all 1st line assurance activities and/or high-risk work activities;
•Ensure effectiveness of fire detection and suppression systems;
•Ensure certification and calibration of all monitoring equipment and systems;
•Oversee installation and maintenance of firefighting equipment;
•Lead fire drills and competency training;
•Contribute towards the formulation of annual working cost and capital budget formulation and manage operational cost efficiencies in areas of accountability;
•Ensure Compliance to regulation 5.1 of MHSA and Regulation 16;
•Manage and facilitates emergency rescue and fire investigations, preventions and audits, compile and distribute reports.
 

 

ABOUT YOU:

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

•Must have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Mining environment;
•Must have 3 years experience as a member of fire response or Proto team;
•Sound knowledge of Fundamentals of Maintenance and Planning Principles;
•SAP PM, MS Office Suite.
•Competency in fire risk assessment, prevention system design and auditing;

Qualifications for this role are:

•Diploma in Fire Technology or related field certificate (required)
•Grade12 ( Matric) or equivalent (required)
•Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control  and Valid Trade test.(advantageous)
