ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As a Specialist Fire Master,you will be responsible to lead the design, implementation and execution of fire prevention, fire detection, and firefighting standards and practices. Coordinate and manage all emergency preparedness and response efforts across the mine. Be a risk champion for fire, ensuring compliance with MHSA and Regulations, as well as the SANS standards
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Lead emergency response as Incident lead;
- Conduct and review routinely all fire risk assessments, conduct inspections across the mine. and ensure compliance to all 1st line assurance activities;
- Maintain equipment readiness and oversee fire team competency;
- Liaise with external authorities and manage compliance;
- Conduct and review routinely all fire risk assessments;
- Conduct inspections across the mine;
- Ensure compliance to all 1st line assurance activities and/or high risk work activities;
- Ensure effectiveness of fire detection and suppression systems;
- Ensure certification and calibration of all monitoring equipment and systems;
- Oversee installation and maintenance of firefighting equipment;
- Lead fire drills and competency training;
- Contribute towards the formulation of annual working cost and capital budget formulation and, manage operational cost efficiencies in areas of accountability;
- Ensure Compliance to regulation 5.1 of MHSA and Regulation 16;
- Manage and facilitates emergency rescue and fire investigations, preventions and audits, compile and distribute reports.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mining environment;
- 3-5 years experience with fire management system on surface;
- Incident command and emergency management;
- Fire risk assessment and hazard identification;
- Competency in fire prevention system design and auditing;
- Training and development of fire teams.
Qualifications for this role are:
- Grade 12 or equivalent;
- Fire Technology Diploma(advantageous);
- Fire Risk Assessment Certificate (Recommended);
- Intermediate in Mine Environmental Control (advantageous);
- SAESI registered firefighting qualification;
- Code 08 (EB) driver’s license.
