ABOUT HMM

Hotazel Manganese Mines (HMM) is made up of two Manganese mines Mamatwan and Wessels. Both operations are located in the Kalahari Basin, home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese reserves.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As a Specialist Employee Relations, you will be to provide high quality and comprehensive employee relations advice and services to HMM and all relevant stakeholders, on the implementation of organizations Human Resources  and employee relations strategy and ensures compliance with all appropriate legislation.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

Provide ER support to the business (including disciplinary and grievance procedures, ER climate surveys, labour stakeholder relations, workplace forums and dispute resolution processes);
Develop and maintain constructive and cordial relationships with employee representatives, and trade union representatives and leaders;
Ensure proper application of the disciplinary and grievance procedures concerning fairness and consistency;
Ensure employee awareness of ER procedures and practices, and updates when required;
Provide advice on interpretation and implementation of labour legislation and in-house labour relations support;
Provide advice by way of drafting opinion in matters that are not sufficiently complex to warrant a referral to legal council;
Obtain and compile information required by Management for salary negotiations (e.g. internal statistics, external surveys etc.);
Attend to matters referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Medication and Arbitration, DMRE related matter as well as union officials.
Present relevant training on industrial relations in general and including changes in policies, procedures and systems;
Facilitate preparation for and of negotiations between the company and employee representative groupings and producing negotiation agreements;
Facilitate annual employee relations and industrial relations risk assessments and verifications of controls.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

Prior relevant experience in CCMA cases, stakeholder engagement, negotiations, contractor management & strategic IR management;
Past experience in a unionised  ER Business environment;
4 years' experience in industrial relations with a sound knowledge of industrial and employee relations theory, principles, policies and practices within a mining environment;
Ability to build effective working relationships with business stakeholders and to become a reliable point of contact for matters relating to Employee relations;
Ability to think critically, analyse business requirements and to translate these into practical solution definitions.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

Tertiary Qualifications Diploma or Degree  in HR, Industrial Relations/LLB;
Valid code 8 driver’s license;
Must be able to obtain a Certificate of Medical Fitness (Red Ticket).
