ABOUT MAMATWAN:

 

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our open-cut Mamatwan mine which started operating more than half a century ago.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

This role is a permanent full-time position at South32 Mamatwan Mine.

 

As a Senior Grade Geologist, you will be responsible to execute geological and grade control activities in the Ore Reserve to ensure optimal and safe extraction in accordance with customer specifications and business requirements.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Generate, update and maintain Short Range Geological Model to support weekly and monthly mine planning;
• Produce and update grade quality forecasts and reconcile forecasts against actual production results;
• Plan and execute Forward prospecting and reverse circulation drilling programs to improve geological confidence in line with the Life of mine (2-Year Plan);
• Provide geological guidance and technical support to Mining Operations to optimize ore recovery at the mine and plants;
• Coordinate processing of drill core including logging, sampling and data processing;
• Implement and Conduct QAQC of diamond  drill samples, reverse circulation, grade control samples to ensure compliance with sampling protocol;
• Conduct face mapping and contact verifications at defined intervals and upload validated data into geological software;
• Provide geological information, and communicate risks and opportunities to relevant stakeholders (Mining, marketing, Mine Planning etc.);
• Oversee and support  the grade control team with stockpile management to ensure we feed on specification to the port;
• Collect and analyses special samples for mineral evaluation purposes;
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to grade control, ore quality management from pit to the port, and data integrity.

ABOUT YOU:

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Mining or Production Geology of which at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role;
• Open pit experience will be advantageous
• Strong experience in Sort Range Modelling ,grade control and quality forecasting.
• Geological Modelling Software Leapfrog/Geobank/Micromine (or similar) experience is essential;
• A resource modelling or geostatistics background would be advantageous;
• Computer literacy in MS Office Suite is essential.

Qualifications for this role are:

• Honors Degree in Geology;
• Valid drivers licence
