ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on a 7:7 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns or residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.
As the Training Specialist, you will be responsible for enhancing excavator productivity, operator capability and safe load and haul performance through targeted training, technical guidance and data‑driven improvement.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Analysing excavator performance data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency
- Delivering operator development programmes focused on best‑practice techniques and machine care
- Conducting field assessments and coaching to reinforce safe, effective operating behaviours
- Collaborating with operational teams to address bottlenecks and align improvement strategies
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Extensive experience operating and/or supervising large mining excavators (e.g. EXC 2500/2600 or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of load and haul operations and equipment interaction
- Ability to interpret performance data and translate insights into practical improvements
- Confident coaching and mentoring capability with frontline operators
- Sound judgement in safety, risk management and operational decision‑making
Qualifications for this position are:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or ETASS
- G1, G8, G9 (or equivalent) risk management, investigation and communication units
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Current RII competencies for Excavator, Dozer and Haul Truck
