ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Brisbane based candidates encouraged to apply with consideration to roster variation. Option to be residential and live on Groote Eylandt.

As the Superintendent Water Management & Strategy, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and technical leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and optimised water management that supports operational performance, long‑term planning, and environmental stewardship.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Direct mine water strategies across short, medium & life‑of‑mine horizons
• Oversee water balance modelling, hydrological assessments & infrastructure planning
• Guide budget development, project prioritisation & contractor performance
• Strengthen governance frameworks, reporting standards & regulatory alignment

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Leading multidisciplinary technical teams with clarity, accountability & collaboration
• Navigating complex operational environments with sound judgement & resilience
• Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders, regulators & external partners
• Managing competing priorities while maintaining strong safety and compliance focus

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Water Engineering, Water Resources or equivalent
• Current C Class Drivers Licence
• Mining Supervisor (G1, G8, G9) qualification, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement
