Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a permanent position on a 7:7 or a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

As the Senior Exploration Geologist, you will be primarily responsible for the coordination of technical and geological activities, ensuring all quality assurance and quality control measures are applied to the collection, collation, interpretation and reporting of geological information for exploration programs. This will include the technical management of significant resource drilling programs including contract Geologists and Field Technicians.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Ensure the Exploration Geology team always operate in a safe and sustainable manner.
• Establish operational readiness for all technical aspects of the exploration program including all sampling protocols and standards and field logging for RC and diamond drilling programs.
• Build annual exploration work programs and budgets in collaboration with the Resource Geology team, conduct regular forecasts and ensure drill programs are executed to plan.
• Work with the Mine Geology team to ensure effective interchange of orebody knowledge and develop overall geoscience capability.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Significant experience gained in a similar role within Mining or Exploration.
• Knowledge of geostatistical/sampling methodology and QA/QC skills.
• Well-developed geological modelling skills, preferably Vulcan and Leapfrog.
• Experience in developing, coaching and mentoring employees to improve engagement and capability.

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary qualification / Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geoscience, or relevant discipline
• Full C class Drivers’ Licence
