ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered subject to accommodation availability.
As the Senior Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-level environmental expertise to support compliance, risk management and operational planning across GEMCO.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Design and execute fit-for-purpose environmental monitoring programs
- Maintain and analyse environmental and spatial datasets to identify issues
- Maintain permits and licences, and support approvals aligned with business needs
- Provide specialist advice to operational and planning teams to ensure compliance
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Strong understanding of environmental regulation, approvals and risk management within mining or heavy industry
- GIS capability, and excellent analytical and reporting skills
- Collaborative stakeholder engagement across regulators, community and internal teams
- Coaching others and providing specialist environmental advice
- Extensive experience in the design, execution and reporting of environmental monitoring programs
- Strong water, waste and marine management technical knowledge (highly desirable)
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines
- Current C Class (Open) Drivers Licence (manual or willing to obtain)
